On the last trip away this year we headed many miles north to the lovely Scottish Highlands. A place that I’ve grown to love over the years as we’ve always tended to visit during the Autumn months, showing off the flora and fauna to it’s best.

Staying in the Cairngorms you get a great sense of the natural wilderness that encompasses this national park. This trip’s aim was to get some more images of the animals synonymous to the Scottish forests; the charismatic Red Squirrel and the equally impressive species endemic to the Caledonian Pine forest, the Crested Tit.

Firstly onto the Squirrel site.

Then onto the Crestie site. Having never seen these before it was a welcome addition to my photo library with a new species to photograph.

Other species on the hit list were the usual Deer and seasonal birds. One bird I did want to photograph; the rare Capercaillie was extremely elusive and three visits to where it usually resides were unsuccessful. However, it’s a good excuse to come back next to make sure I catch it then.
