We travel on a luxury boat out to Grassholm Island of the Pembrokeshire Coast.
Here, eighty thousand Gannets will whirl around the sky above you in the evening light before we head out to sea, finding large groups of Manx Shearwater rafting up before they take off in mass at dusk. Looping back passing the nearby islands and on occasion, it's possible to stumble across Cetaceans too!
This 4 hour bespoke boat trip is run on select weekends in July and August, making the most of the summer sunsets and seabird activity.I will also be on hand to answer any questions and set you up with your camera settings, so you can get the best images from the evening.
For this trip, we've teamed up with local boat company Dale Sailing. Dale Sailing have been running boat trips in Pembrokeshire for over 40 years so we'll be in safe hands.
All trips are only run in favourable weather and sea conditions, so on occasion we may have to reschedule departure times, or even cancel trips if the weather forecast is particularly bad.
If a trip is cancelled, we will try to accommodate you on an alternative trip, or.a refund will be offered.
- All crew are MCA licensed & highly experienced.
- Life jackets provided.
- Inboard seating out of the weather.
Recommended Photo Equipment
Digital SLR camera or good Bridge camera with zoom. Lenses up to 300mm or 500mm ideally, wide angle for seascapes/groupd of birds. Fully charged batteries and spares, plenty of memory cards as you’ll be surprised how many photos you take!
What to bring
We will be at sea all evening and around 10-15 miles offshore so warm clothing desirable as it can be colder and windier at sea. There is plenty of space in the cabin to hide out of the weather until photo opportunities arise. There is tea and coffee facilities on board if required but also bring any refreshments/snacks if you wish.
You will be required to walk up and down a narrow jetty and steps to get on/off the boat. Also, when we pause for photographic opportunities at sea, it's possible to walk around the sides of the cabin onto the front deck of the boat. There is only a small hand rail so you need to be in a good state of mobility and have good balance. For those that don't wish to venture around the side/front, there is the deck at the rear which provides a flat viewing area.
If required, full professional tuition and guidance throughout the boat trip. Covering correct camera setting and techniques and using the available light to help you get the very best from the session.
